Making technical use of processed animal by-products

Following the introduction of the By-product regulation (EC 1774/2000), processed animal by-products made from category 2 material may now be used for various technical purposes. 

The prospects are good as regards animal fat in particular. Daka Bio-industries’ research and development is currently focused on the production of biodiesel, and Daka Bio-industries already exports small quantities of fat products intended for biodiesel production. Processed animal protein (meat and bone meal) made from category 2 material may also be used for various technical purposes, one of which is the production of fertilisers. Similarly, most of this production takes place abroad.
